I’m excited to share that my latest article, Best Musky Reels of 2025, is now available online at Field & Stream.
In this piece, I dig into what sets each reel apart and what makes them worthy of your consideration when you're hunting for the next workhorse to throw big baits at even bigger fish. Without spoiling the movies ending, let me just say: I gave these reels hell. If you’ve ever been on the boat with me, you already know I’m unapologetically tough on gear—whether it’s the nature of musky fishing or just my general disregard for the well-being of rods and reels.
Think of it like a primitive death match: man versus musky reel. I pushed every reel on this list to the brink. Some survived. Some… not so much. Nothing says "torture test" like finding out how frozen a reel can be and still cast. A few didn’t make it back.
